AFSCME STRONG across the state!

It is Oregon AFSCME’s mission to empower and unite workers to create change in their workplaces and communities and that starts with building a strong community within our union.

In February, members statewide came together with their locals to connect, engage, introduce their families and for some, meet in person for the first time.

Here are some highlights from the 2022 Oregon AFSCME Strong events:

City of Salem Local 2067's Member Action Teams (MAT) held an AFSCME Strong pizza feed and planning meeting at Pietro's Pizza. MAT leaders updated their groups, shared ideas and challenges, identified new MAT leaders to recruit and prepared for Local 2067 AFSCME Strong Family Bowling Night.

Dozens of Polk County and City of Dallas members rented the Dallas Cinema and brought their families to get out of the rain and enjoy a movie together.

In Benton County,  AFSCME Local 2064 packed the house for their AFSCME Strong bowling night on February 18th at the Highland Bowl in Corvallis. They celebrated winning a great contract without going on strike by bowling lots of strikes! The OHSU House Officers Union (HOU) woke up early to serve coffee to members on their way to work. Because interns and residents organized their local union during the pandemic, this was an opportunity for HOU elected representatives to meet in person! HOU was happy to share that some non-union OHSU workers were inquiring about joining!

In Eugene, around 40 Local 1724 members came together to hold a membership meeting with officer elections and celebrated with Papas Pizza – a member favorite!

"It was great to connect with fellow members in person again, and check in about what issues were the most impactful and important. The event also gave us a chance to engage with members on how Oregon AFSCME is working to address workplace concerns." said Ted Shriro of Local 1724.

Member focused since day one, Oregon AFSCME celebrates this years’ STRONG events that brought our members together to build a stronger sense of community and unity amongst our union family.
