In remembrance of a beloved union leader, Giles Gibson

We are saddened to report the passing of Giles Gibson, a beloved member of the  Oregon AFSCME family and retired former staff attorney. Giles had been battling leukemia, before passing peacefully at home, surrounded by family.

Giles was a giant in the labor movement. He  spent years as an organizer and representative before finding his calling as a labor attorney. Giles built his skillset in private practice before bringing his expertise to Oregon AFSCME Council 75 in 2013. With a sharp legal mind and boundless dedication to advocating for working people, Giles left a profound impact on colleagues and members alike.

Before Giles retired at the end of 2018, he was part of the team helping our newest members at Volunteers of America fight for a first contract. This was exactly the type of worker justice fight that Giles was always quick to take on and always made time for because he knew the real impact it had on workers' lives.

Giles coupled his fierce advocacy with a loving and kind attitude toward people. Rest in Union Power and Peace Giles - we are grateful for knowing you!
